Catalysts: Education & Outreach
for young filmmakers
Catalytic helps young filmmakers through free educational programs. Students work with experienced professionals to create their own original films.
In 2024, we started free workshops for middle school students in Washtenaw County. The mission is simple:
Give students access to cameras and computers for the creation of their own unique and personal motion pictures.

VISIONS OF EXPERIENCE:
MIDDLE SCHOOL FILM CLUB, ANN ARBOR, MI
Our pilot program launched in early 2024. Ann Arbor middle school students met once a week to create scenes and short films. These young artists worked in teams, learning the process and workflow of a professional movie set. From hand-drawn storyboarding to script. From script to screen.
Students learned to film using their own cameras and professional editing equipment. Films are shown in an annual showcase.
